Maybe giving more makes you even more successful
Hi good people!
I hope you’re having such an amazing week so far and checking off those weekly goals you’d set for yourself. How are you? Is everything okay?
Earlier in the week, a YouTuber friend was telling me how he plans to give out all his direct income from YouTube starting January next year. I thought to myself, “That’s insane. Someone puts in all their effort, build a platform and give away 100% of the direct benefits?”. Then i immediately remembered the Mr Beast’s of this world who drive Teslas while gifting Lamborghinis to others, Bill Gates who seems his entire existence is to give grants in the health industry etc. My friend’s channel had spiral grown in the past 4 months from $0 to $234 to $789 to $1776 of YouTube direct earnings (AdSense). By YouTube growth trajectories, that could easily be more than $10,000 per month by January or even mid next year. Why January? He’s re-investing every single dollar for the rest of the year into equipment. When that is done, he’ll give that entire income stream for that cause.
The other thing i noticed after looking at serial givers is that they never lack. Do you notice the same too? So i requested a very special person who i consider a serial giver, “the Melinda Gates of Africa and of our generation”, Sandra to jot down from her experience. Is giving as an entrepreneur worth it? Is it doable anyway? What if you’re not a millionaire or billionaire yet? Does it have a direct bearing to receiving?
In her life as a Public Health Specialist, Sandra has worked with several top organizations on the African continent to foster better and healthy living for people, she has worked with organized rural communities to increase access to better social services for marginalized communities among others. Relatedly, her consultancy firm; SANAKOY CONSULTANTS helps to ease the work of organizations in the region through Project Management technical assistance. (check contacts at the end of this issue)

I can go on and on and also speak about her AFRICAN AUTHENTICS craft store with the goal of recognizing the uniqueness in African craft and supporting everyone around the globe to add an African touch to their collection. But what’s most relevant to this issue today is her philanthropy work she’s doing of supporting under privileged children, women and girls from marginalized communities under her organization BARUKH SHEM FOUNDATION.

I guess let’s read from Sandra, shall we?
Giving as the obvious yet hidden secret to receiving.
I’m yet to find a plant that grows without a seed being planted so until I find one, I will still hold onto the fact that for anything to grow, it must be planted.
The way I look at giving is similar to how I look at a seed. For a seed to grow into a beautiful plant, it must be planted and with the planting comes increase and multiplication.
Thats exactly how I’ve experienced the principle of giving and it has been one of my greatest life lessons.
So here’s the thing, when you give, you’re planting a seed that will one day grow, multiply and produce fruits that you and the people in your life can feed off.
The most interesting thing here is that you will most likely receive way more than you give, that’s just how God operates, or you can call it the Universe. Who then wouldn’t want to give if the rewards are that much and obvious 😅🤷🏻♀️
Well the principle of giving sounds so simple and obvious to most of us right? It’s been preached almost everywhere across different places most especially in the religious denominations.
We’ve seen Bible verses like Luke 6:38 “Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full, pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back” and in Qur’an 3:92, “By no means shall you attain righteousness unless you give freely of that which you love, and whatever you give, Allah knows it well”
It is also a Universal law to give in order to receive, one that forms a foundation onto which a lot of things are built.
Giving without expecting anything in return is where all the magic happens☺️. It sets the principle of giving in a free flowing state that allows the fruits of it to manifest.
Mother Teresa brought this to so much light when she mentioned that, “It’s not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.”
One of the mistakes we make is to attach expectations on what we give or even the amount that we give rather than ensuring that we put our hearts into the giving. The ultimate goal should be to extend love and offer help to the person in need. It’s an act that should be more about the other person than yourself, an act of selflessness to be exact.
As someone who has done philanthropy work for quite sometime, one of the things I had to overcome was to think that I needed to have so much in order to give.
This is the mindset that a lot of people have.
The truth is you actually don’t need to first have a lot in order to give and I do agree with you, you can’t pour from an empty cup, that’s right but you can also share the little you have with those in need of it. And when you look closely, what might seemingly be so little to you might be the other person’s opportunity to survive. .
But wait, when does the “a lot” ever come anyway🤔, we all know how this story ends right?😅….the “a lot” never came and the person never gave🤷🏻♀️
I recently read a quote from John C Maxwell that said that; “Generosity has everything to do with your mindset and not your net-worth”. This quote left me in so much awe because of how much wisdom and truth it carried. It spoke so clearly into the fact that you actually don’t need a lot to give, you just need to have the heart and mind to give and this will ultimately influence your actions☀️
As I conclude, at the core of giving is Empathy, Sympathy, Selflessness and Intentionality☀️. When giving, it mostly has a lot to do with the other person and not you. One thing that I’ve learnt during my philanthropy work is that the wellbeing of the other people should come first and just like the Rotarians like to call it, it’s a service above self.
Giving not only includes materialistic things but also one can offer a service, extend a hand, share knowledge, offer console, be present among others.
And just Maya Angelou once said; “I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver”☀️
