Video Podcasts are the thing in 2024 . Start one.

Earlier today, i was watching a debate hosted by Nuseir Yassin of Nas Daily at the Nas Summit. The debate was between Nas and another Cyprus born youtuber but stays in the US; Fidias. Although the debate was about short form Vs Long form content, i picked another important message from it; podcasts. Fidias said , “A 2 hour video podcast gets 30 minutes of average view Duration” . Am going to explain why this is important in abit, stick with me.

Am sure like me, you must have seen a surge in podcast like content on YouTube, simply called video podcasts. Audio podcasts are in audio form and so you listen to them on audio streaming platforms like Apple podcasts, audio Mack , SoundCloud , Spotify while video podcasts are in video form so you watch them on video platforms like YouTube etc .

Not to digress, you must have seen a surge in podcasts lately and for some reason, like me, have been wondering why? Well, they are the new thing . To give you perspective from Fidias’ revelation, if you upload a 2hour video on YouTube and people watch averagely 30 minutes of it , that’s goooood. I will still explain in abit. Video podcasts mean you are a youtuber too so you can make money from YouTube as well. The only difference is that as a podcaster, you don’t have to spend the next 30 days on an abandoned island with no food , prank the Monalisa , visit the most dangerous country etc just so you can make an interesting YouTube video. For a podcast , you could simply set up your background, filming equipment and invite a friend or 2 , have a cup of coffee while you speak about mental health , business, relationships or hundreds more interesting topics and that would be just as fine . Actually you may not even need to go through the complex edits that come with editing YouTube videos.

So why was Fidias’ revelation important ? As a YouTuber , you make more money when viewers view more of your video. The longer they view your video, the more money you could potentially make and vice versa ( I will spare you the technicalities but that’s the baseline criteria) . A YouTuber who has a 20 minutes video that’s being viewed averagely for 12 minutes will make more money than another with the same 20 minutes video that’s being viewed averagely for 4 minutes . Is it starting to click for you ?

Long videos also foster deeper connections between the viewer and the creator because as a viewer, you get to understand your creator deeper thus building even more trust . And because of this , a podcaster is not only confined to making money from YouTube but can sprout their business with all the other forms of monetization just like all youtubers e.g brand sponsorships, Affiliate Marketing ,creating and selling digital products, selling Merch, launching subscription based SaaS and Mobile Apps to mention but a few

Those pointers speak to how interesting a venture video podcasts are. Start one.
