Working Online/From Home is not what you think

Hey friend !

I hope you had an amazing week . Well for the last couple of days I’ve been feeling under the weather but let’s hope in the coming days I’ll be great .

Midweek , my neighbor asked if I could join him to go visiting another friend & I quickly said I was tired. It clearly didn’t make any logical sense to him how someone who’s been sitting at home almost the whole day is tired😳. “How do I make it make sense to him?” I silently thought to myself . After some debating , he left disappointed & confused at the same time . So i thought to myself may be as someone who’s preaching the “work from home” gospel on my YouTube channel & newsletter & well let’s say everywhere , I’d share some mis conceptions people have about working online and/or from home so it doesn’t become some kinda “cultural shock” to you when you start working on your affiliate marketing business , e-commerce ,faceless YouTube channel ,ebook ,newsletter ,stocks ,Airbnb or whatever you’ll choose to work on from the 100s of stuff I’ll be sharing on my channel ( I’ve literally given you my content plan for my YouTube channel 🤓)

AND NOW SOME MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT WORKING ONLINE AND/OR FROM HOME

  1. That online working is scamming . In Nigeria it’s commonly termed as Yahoo simply to mean internet fraud . We hear this a lot especially when you’re in Nigeria, which has unfortunately been marked on the world stage as a country full of internet fraudsters (Yahoo boys). Whereas we may not deny their existence, there’s several millions of people out there who’re legit online working . Several content creators like YouTubers , Twitter , IG & Tiktok influencers work from home . Forex & crypto currency traders , developers , artists , actors & actresses , editors etc . All these clusters for the bigger part work from home actually and surprisingly , most earn considerable amounts of money.

  2. That working from home is less productive. This obviously has a true side to it as well because for the bigger part you could get carried away scrolling social media or watching your favorite Netflix show instead of doing work . With the help of some productivity tools like apps , templates ( which am launching in the next few weeks so look out for them) , etc , you’re able to balance your time between leisure and work.

  3. That we’re lazy . I know 😭😭. Nigerians have a term “ajebota” which may mean someone who can hardly perform a task . This particular one is in reply to the introduction of this newsletter issue . The truth is that as creatives ( because that’s who we’re for the bigger part ) , our jobs are largely mental as compared to let’s say a porter at a construction site whose job is done more physically . Using our brains we’ve to draw out different scenarios almost on a daily basis and find solutions for each of them and feed them into the over all task we’re trying to solve . You don’t believe me ? Let me give you an example ; a developer who’s working on a bills payment system ( e.g for buying airtime, data , insurance , electricity, water etc) has not only to plan for the programming involved but also how they’ll collect payments from clients onto the platform, how they’ll integrate different network operators, the laws involved , the funding and 100s of other things . When you meet such a person at the end of the day and they tell you they’re tired , it’s very possible . There must be a scientific connection about this in anatomy . The scientists on here , let’s have a conversation.

  4. You can’t make a worthy career working online . The irony is that those who’ve gotten the right plugs to this online/from home working actually make way more money compared to regular jobs . And for the bigger part seem more successful, with more time to give their families & friends. So it’s really about getting those pieces right . Or you still don’t believe me . The highest earning YouTuber for instance makes $5M per month, spends about $200,000 per month giving food aid to people in his community , spends another almost $500,000 a month helping lives of others across the globe . Do you believe me now ? 🤓🤓

  5. That we spend more time online . The funny bit is that it’s hard to differentiate someone who’s online on what’s app because they’re connecting with a client or even a team mate from someone who’s simply socializing away . Imagine you’re a support team member for let’s say a food store , your job is to reply to customer queries, pick their orders and update them on how they’re progressing etc , then you probably have to be online , right ?? So someone may mistake you for simply being online but in actual sense you’re working. But using the tools I mentioned in 2 , this shouldn’t be a challenge.

  6. That we make free money . I think no.3 debunks this point in depth .. the work is actually way too much for the bigger part . And because it’s too much , so is the reward . The reward of living a life with more income , able to make money while you’re asleep , having more time for your family & friends etc . That’s such a great reward , right ? Very worthy for the journey, right ?
